The holiday season is around the corner, and if you want to market your business to the billions of consumers out there who shop til they drop at this time of year, you need to have a strategy.
Since many consumers take advantage of online sales—especially those on Cyber Monday—it’s important that you market your business using online tactics, as there are plenty of people who are not going to wait in line for Black Friday deals at local stores.
But marketing your business online around the holidays needs to be done differently than the way you traditionally market your business online. If you want to reach your consumers during the busy holiday season, here’s how to do it.
Know what customers want around the holidays.
The holidays are hectic for everyone. During this time of the year, your customers are not going to respond to the same messaging or need the same things as they do the rest of the year. Instead, the want deals, coupons, great gift ideas and anything that will make their lives easier during this busy time. Make sure that you are tailoring your messaging to these new needs so that your customers continue to engage with your brand.
Let them share.
The holiday season is a time of giving, and everyone is looking out for that great deal or idea and they want to share it with others. If you are using an email campaign and giving your customers a coupon, make it easy for them to share the coupon with other people. If you’re offering a deal on social media, make it easy to share. This will make your customer happy that they’re not wasting precious time trying to send the deal off to others, but it will allow your offering to be shared with other people who didn’t initially get it, and these people may become customers.
Create different messages.
Your audience is not comprised of the same person with the same wants and needs, so it’s important that you create messages for your different target audiences. Mothers are going to respond to different holiday messages than children, grandparents, fathers, etc. Men will react to different messaging than women. It’s important to tailor your messaging to these different groups so that you’re reaching the widest audience you possibly can.
Change up your keywords.
If you’re implementing SEO (as you should), you need to understand that the holiday season provides different popular keywords than any other time of year. People are searching for gifts, recipe ideas, décor ideas and anything relating to the holiday season, so make sure that you tailor your keywords so that your online marketing efforts fall in line with what people are now searching for. If you leave your keywords as is, you’re going to find that you didn’t do as well as you did during any other month.
Keep it simple.
No matter what type of online marketing tactic you’re employing, make sure that you keep it simple. This is a busy time of year, and most people don’t have time to invest in a long campaign that takes forever for them to benefit from. Make sure that your call to actions are clear and that your offer is even clearer. If possible, stick to one click through for your audience to gain their reward. Simple campaigns will do much more for your business during this time of year.
The holidays are an important part of year for your business because consumers are making purchases. If you want to receive some of this business, you need to create online marketing tactics that will reach your audience and give them what they want. Once you’ve nailed this, you’ll earn their business.
